NYC Geek Meet

I've been in hibernation for a decade (out of IT) and that was the first geek meet-up i've been to in so much time... The only expectations I had were to meet the cool folks that showed up. I got there early, so I hung out and people watched. Hey, there is nothing more amusing to me than imagining what other people's lives are as they run for their trains, grab a snack, leisurely walk about, look at the floor, read, use your imagination. I am so lame, the only face that I knew was Steve Rubles (micropersuasion).

As you can tell by the title, it is about changing behavior, whether it is for health reasons or business. John Kotter, a Harvard Business School Professor says that even in business " The central issue is never strategy, structure, culture, or systems. The core of the matter is always about changing the behavior of people."

Quite a bit of research is funded by our tax dollars. "Big commercial publishers are given content for free and then paid tremendous amounts of money to process and distribute it".

Who's Doing The Math?

Long before a couple of bloggers were feeding us bs; journalists, advertisers, experts and politicians were doing a mighty fine job of feeding us innumerative bs. According to a recent survey (just kidding) conducted by Jay Leno with the "Jaywalkers" from this year's "Top Jaywalking Thinkers", they found that 51% of people make shit up, 105% are afraid to look dumb, 67% try too hard to impress others, and 39% believe that 41% of journalists have hemorrhoids from sitting on their asses.
