RSS/XML is used to syndicate content - it is a big part of web 2.0 and the social web. Most modern browsers, Firefox, IE7, etc support it as well as cell phones, rss readers, and social software applications. Connecting to a feed alerts the subscriber to new or updated content. Content can be pushed out and pulled in with RSS/XML.
RSS feeds are available for users and content as well as categories and tags. Custom combinations of feeds are available simply by changing the url.
